The Asselby to Aberford Pipeline Project involves the design and construction of a gas pipeline across Yorkshire for National Grid. The pipeline has an external diameter of 1200mm (48"), designed for pressures up to 85 bar. From east to west the pipeline starts at Asselby AGI and connects to the next section of Trans Pennine Pipeline near Aberford. The pipeline is approximately 35km in length.
The Challenge
The Asselby project was awarded to Laing O'Rourke in December 2007, with a construction start date of spring 2008 and a Gas on date at the end of September 2008. This was an extremely challenging, given over 50 special crossings and severe ground water issues and not to mention the poor season’s weather.
The Delivery
To ensure delivery was achieved the engineering of this project had to be superb in quality and dynamic in execution.
To this end, QEMS Limited provided Laing O'Rourke an excellent service and back up. Providing Laing O'Rourke with high calibre staff, who were prepared to work at intense levels of performance without compromising quality.
The QEMS staff very quickly integrated with our personnel and became valued members of the team, to ensure a single team focus.
QEMS provided us with a flexibility of service and personnel going beyond our original thoughts and expectations.
I look forward to working with them in the furture,
Tony Robertson
